The idea or the concept of a mascot is to represent the team or nation that is holding the commonwealth games. A mascot is a person in a costume that is suppose to bring good luck. The mascot for 2010 delhi commonwealth games was Shera the tiger.

This years mascot is a thistle.  Beth Gilmour. the colours are there because the thistle turns purple at the top when fully grown and thistles grow everywhere in Scotland.

This is my design concept for a Mascot if we were to host the Commonwealth Games in NZ

I think the 4 square guy is appropriate for a mascot for the Commonwealth Games because he is a very well known symbol in NZ. he wears Sandals because Kiwis always wear sandals in the summer and he holds fish & chips because when foreign people try to Imitate a kiwi accent they always say fish & chips.

The Dangers And Effects of Marijuana.

For the past two weeks we have been attending the Life Education Caravan to learn about the effects and dangers of drugs and alcohol and what the body does when we make the transition through puberty. We mainly focused on drugs, I have chosen to write about the drug marijuana.

Marijuana, One of the worlds most well known drug. This drug is known as a gateway drug, meaning it introduces other people to more drugs. It is usually the first drug people start off with because it is cheap, you have easy access to it and it is easy to grow, Especially in the sunlight.

The main reason people choose to use marijuana is to fit in, to relieve stress, to escape from all of your negativity, to act cool (but they're not.) and mostly for the effect. I’ve heard marijuana can cause you to laugh a lot and put your body into a state of mind where everything seems weird.

Marijuana is really dangerous because if you choose to do it and Overdose (also known as O.D) can lead to serious brain damage and even death. Over the period of time we spent in the life caravan I have heard many people tell their stories about why they chose to use drugs.

When you choose to do marijuana you are choosing to upset your brain by stuffing up the neurons. For example, the synapse in-between your neurons is like a channel of water if there is a storm the boat cannot make it across as fast as it could. so when you take drugs a storm happens between your neurons in the synapse, therefore the messages your brain is trying to tell you processes slowly and you will get the message 3-5 seconds later.

Astria

Today we played A game called Astria. The most difficult part of the game was my partner. There was no hard parts just that my partner kept pushing random things. I pretty much found everything easy because it only took us about ten minutes to get to the council. Everything up to the council and submitting our last presentation. The thing I will remember before playing the game next week is to tell my partner to not push random things.

Ethan Mitchell

As a class challenge we were asked to choose a kiwi competing in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games (the friendly games.) I chose Ethan Mitchell. Yesterday won gold for New Zealand in the 750m sprints in cycling.

BAR Five Minute Challenge!!!

My awesome Boots

On my Birthday I got Lots of stuff but the thing I love the most are My X blade rugby league boots, They are the same boots that the west tiger’s wear( National Rugby League Team.)

I am in love with them.

I take them to every training's

and games. I clean them regularly and try not to show off but whenever people see them they try and grab them to take a look. This is the first time I have proper boots that look appealing to (that’s the most important thing, the looks.)

Next Future Steps

Last week My Teacher gave me a paper to apply for the Cooper Connell Boarding scholarship for Auckland Boys Grammar School. I really want to attend this school because it is a school with a high national learning standard and I have heard so many great things about this college.

The reason why I want to attend this school is because I would like a quality education as well the chance to board because it gives me a little taste of the outside life. Everyone that I know that has attended there has gone on to be an amazing sportsman or academic sort of person. (e.g Ben Atiga, John Drake, Grant Fox, Benson Stanley, Jeremy Stanley and BIG KONRAD HURRELL.)

Auckland Boys pushes students to show their full potential to become anything they want, But the real reason why I want to go to auckland Boys is the boarding. I love anything to do with getting out of the house and individually doing my own stuff. (I’m a little worried about the cleaning, But I am fairly decent at cleaning.

My Parents really want me to go there because They are Looking for boys from here that are sporty and participate in cultural events enthusiastically. I am all of that , not boasting but I really excel in sport and cultural events, even music and academic. Recently I sat the year 9 star test and scored somewhere around 50-60 out of 80.

And that is only a couple of reasons why I would like to attend Auckland Boys Grammar School.

Calvin Sound Explination

This is me and my groups first attempt at explaining sound.

Like many terms in science, Sound is formed from a vibration and from mechanical waves. in everyday use, sound refers to what the ear can hear. Sound can be pleasant unpleasant hard or soft high or low. The scientific meaning of sound is based on an understanding interaction between matter and energy, what the brain hears of sound or interprets gets its start from the energy of moving molecules of air.

When a guitar string  vibrates energy comes from vibrations. these oscillating sound waves can move through substances like water dirt or solid rock.

I don't really know if it's entirely true but it's what I heard.

When I find out a bit more I will tell you.
